Congrats to Jeremy Hill of Ocoee High School for winning the 2010 High School Programming Tournament: Online Edition!  Elyse Chase of Winter Springs and Stephen Royal of Stanton College Prep placed 2nd and 3rd, respectively.  Thanks to all for participating!

Besides Dr. Orooji, the UCF Programming Team has a large coaching staff that work directly with the teams, preparing them for competition. Each has been a team member in the past and now works closely with the teams each year.

Coaches

Jason Daly Jason Daly has been a UCF Programming Team coach since the Fall of 2002. He competed on the team from 1999-2001. His team competed at the ICPC World Finals in Vancouver in 2001, finishing tied for 14th place. Jason also competed in UCF High School competitions from 1991 to 1993. Jason's teams have finished as high as 1st place at the Southeast Regional contest.

Jason is also an active organizer of the UCF High School Programming contest, having been a judge since 1997. He wrote a significant portion of the contest software (including the contest server), and contributes new problems and test data each year.

Ben Douglass Ben Douglass was a UCF team member from 2001-2005. He competed at the World Finals in Tokyo, placing 41st. Ben really enjoys working on graph problems and helps judge during the team's practices each Saturday.

 

Ben also is an adjunct instructor in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at UCF. He often teaches some of the core classes at the freshman and sophomore levels.


Stephen Fulwider Stephen Fulwider was a UCF team member from 2006-2009. He attended the World Finals in both 2008 and 2009, placing 65th and 68th. Stephen enjoys problem solving and explores various techniques and algorithms. He also still competes often in TopCoder competitions.

 

Stephen is also pursuing a Ph.D. in computer science at UCF.


Chris Gouge

Chris Gouge rejoined the coaching staff of the UCF Programming Team in the Fall of 2003, having served as an assistant coach from 1988 to 1990. He competed on the UCF team for two years, with those teams placing 5th at the 1991 ICPC World Finals in San Antonio and 7th at the 1992 ICPC World Finals in Kansas City.

After competing, Chris assisted from 1992 through 1996 with the Southeast USA Regional contest. He co-developed a scoring system, consisting of software and a methodology, that kept that contest's score error-free for at least 12 years.

Chris also contributes in various ways to the UCF High School Programming Tournament. In addition, he considers it his most solemn duty each year to select a good theme for the UCF Programming Team names.


Arup Guha

Arup Guha is a Lecturer in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at UCF. In recent years he has been a coach with the UCF Programming Team where he works with the teams and provides lectures on certain key topics.

Arup also helps out with the UCF High School Programming Tournament each year. He is one of the judges each year and helps to develop the problem specifications and judge data.


Glenn Martin

Glenn Martin has been a coach with the team since Fall of 1994. He originally competed as a UCF team member from 1990-1994. He has coached multiple teams to wins at Regional competitions and has coached teams at World Finals that placed as high as 11th.

Glenn also helps to organize UCF's High School Programming Tournament each year. Acting as Head Judge most years, he organizes the judging staff in creating problem specifications, solving the problems and making judging data for the competition. He is also co-developer of the contest software used at the contest.


Nadeem Mohsin Nadeem Mohsin was a UCF team member from 2006-2008. He attended World Finals both years, placing 44th and 65th. Nadeem is intrigued by problem solving and spends his spare time looking at alternative solutions and expanding his knowledge in these areas. He competes often on TopCoder.

 

Nadeem is also pursuing a Ph.D. in computer science at UCF.
