The First Team
UCF first started competing in the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest back in the fall of 1982. Back then, teams were made up of four people, and only one team per school could compete in the regional contest. Pictured above (from left to right) are Randy Hendry, Stephen Keilholz, Jeff Glover and Philip Lantz — the team that won the first UCF local programming contest, and became the first UCF Programming Team! These four students represented UCF at the regional contest held at Georgia Tech. They placed 2nd at that contest, which qualified them for Finals. In the spring of 1983, they attended the ACM Programming Contest Finals in Melbourne, Florida (it wasn't yet called "World Finals" as only U.S. teams participated) and placed 17th. Since then, the UCF Programming Team has established the leading record in our region and regularly competes in World Finals. It all started with the first team!
