UCF Team Record at the ICPC

The International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) is organized by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the largest organization in the world for professionals, educators, and students in the field of computation. The contest is structured as a tiered process, with the top teams from regional contests advancing to the World Finals to determine the world champion team.

In recent years, over 6000 teams from 82 countries competed in 31 regional contests with 100 teams advancing to the World Finals. There are now more teams competing from other countries than from the USA. Each team is composed of three students, who must share one computer. The teams get a set of problems (about 10 problems) and they have 5 hours to solve as many problems as they can. Each problem is solved by writing a computer program that works correctly. The team that solves the most problems wins the contest (in the case of ties, a penalty point system based on speed and incorrect solutions is used).

UCF is in the Southeast USA Region (Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Mississippi). There are usually 80-95 teams competing in our region. The UCF Programming Team record is provided in the table below.

Since our first contest in 1982, we have always finished in the top 3 in our region. This record is matched by no other school in our region.
